Presentation Summary:
CARE (Child-Adult Relationship Enhancement) Workshops were originally developed for parents and caregivers of children in the community who have experienced stressful or traumatic events in their lives, or children with behavior problems. The goal of CARE is to strengthen the adult-child relationship and increase children's positive behaviors. CARE is based on the core principles of the evidence-based Parent Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), which is a 12-14 session therapy program where parents actually work with their child and are "coached" by a therapist behid a two-way mirror. The CARE Workshop modification uses specific PCIT skills for general usage by parents or non-clinical adults who interact with children in a variety of settings (foster care, case managers, home visitation providers, etc).
- Participants will be introduced to the relationship building components of PCIT and the CARE Workshop.
- Participants will learn the 3 P skills as well as the 3 Avoid Skills.
- Participants will learn a set of techniques for child behavior management including Strategic Ignoreing, giving good commands to increase a child's compliance, and the Broken Record technique and how to apply it to a child's behavior.
